SHOWERS AND THUNDERSTORMS, JANUARY 12

A strong upper level trough caused Showers and Thunderstorms to form in a fresh SE airstream on Wednesday, January 12.  The following photographs were taken during the day.  Although most storms were quite weak, considering the poor 1999/2000 storm season, the day was a welcomed surprise (thundery showers were expected, but not in the numbers and intensity we got them!).

Scattered Showers and Thunderstorms also occured in parts of NE NSW.  Some of these storms were severe, with an AWS recording 50 knot winds and very heavy rainfall.  Halden Boyd (ASWA member) even reported seeing BALL LIGHTNING!!!!!!!!!!!!!
